Why get rattan lighting? And what to watch out for when choosing?

Today I will introduce you to rattan lights, which you can find not only on our e-shop but also come and touch them in our physical store.

Rattan lighting fixtures are a grateful home accessory and an investment in design not only for interior spaces but also for exteriors with a canopy, such as a terrace or winter garden. Rattan lighting fixtures are elegant and timeless, and if you choose a manufacturer that values quality weaving, design, and material, I definitely recommend acquiring them.

"In our store, we have lighting from the Dutch manufacturer Raw Materials, and they definitely meet all of this. Until I saw their rattan lights, I wasn't much of a fan of rattan. I hadn't seen lights until then that I would use in projects for more modern spaces, where I would like to highlight elegance in combination with this natural material."

Why choose rattan lighting from us?

Cozy atmosphere

These rattan lights will bring a pleasant and cozy atmosphere to the space almost instantly. This is thanks to the weaving, which ensures that when lit, the light creates a pleasant painting (shadows) on the walls.

Sophisticated design

Their design appears light and very elegant due to the shapes of their weave, textile cable, and metal cover. The fixtures have uniform rounded shapes, a solid quality knit, and a sturdy metal structure. They do not come across as overly rustic. Their pieces are simply more sophisticated than those I usually see from other manufacturers of this material, which is why we chose them for our store.

Handmade

The production of these lights takes place manually in specialized workshops designated for this purpose. Hand weaving is a skill that is passed down from generation to generation and must be appreciated.

Color variations

Natural rattan has variations in coloring. Since it is a natural material and not bleached, you will find subtle color deviations in natural rattan, which only emphasizes the uniqueness of this material and fits perfectly into nature-inspired interiors - Scandinavian, modern urban, boho. However, it also produces lighting in colored black rattan, which has a solid black color and will beautifully enhance an elegantly styled interior.

Sustainability

Last but not least, rattan is classified as an ecological material, which is a very relevant topic today. Fair manufacturers are looking for options for more sustainable materials, and rattan definitely belongs among them. Rattan is a purely natural resource. It is a long vine that can grow up to 100m in length. It grows quickly, meaning that rattan is a rapidly renewable natural resource. Compared to other materials, such as wood or metals, rattan requires less energy during processing. Rattan is often processed by hand, which also reduces the need for heavy industrial equipment and the energy required for its production. As a natural material, rattan is fully biodegradable, which means that at the end of its life, it can safely return to nature without creating long-term waste or pollution.

Social factor

An important factor is also the social issue. The harvest of rattan often provides an important source of income for local communities in tropical areas. By supporting sustainable production and trade of rattan, these communities can be supported, which can lead to better protection of local ecosystems and the promotion of social development. As a natural material, rattan is also fully biodegradable, which means that at the end of its life, it can safely return to nature without creating long-term waste or pollution.

What to think about and be careful of when choosing rattan lighting?

There are many rattan lights on the market, and believe me, there are differences among them. The main difference is in the price of the product, and usually, it is justified. Not all rattan is the same. It depends on the quality of the material and its processing, so be careful about that. Rattan is a durable and very long-lasting material, but only if it meets the criteria I described above. Feel the material, weigh the light, and take a close look at the weaving. You will see the differences, and this is usually reflected in the price.

Choose a light that fits best into your interior in terms of size, shape, and overall design of the knit. Also, select a color that matches, for example, the color of your table and chairs. In open spaces, also consider the sofa. Are you more of a light or dark team?

"Also consider how high your ceilings are, whether a large light fixture, in terms of height, will be the right choice for you. Or whether you should rather choose a fixture that is longer in width."

The diffusion of light is also important. Here, focus on the thickness of the rattan and the density of the weave. A lower density will ensure greater light diffusion, while a higher density of the weave will result in more direct light.

My final tip

In our rattan lights, we recommend the Edison bulb, which will give these lights and your entire space a truly magical and cozy atmosphere that will create a pleasant relaxation.

Rattan lights are a good investment in your interior and also an ecological choice. When selecting them, it is only necessary to consider your expectations, needs, and possibilities.

We look forward to seeing you at our brick-and-mortar store at Husitské 51, Prague 3 or online at the e-shop www.code-concept.cz, where you will find the entire collection.

Yours, Margaret
